The desert location means that the temperatures range from 13 °F to 104°F depending on the area. Most areas see less of a temperature range, however. Rainfall is very low in Nevada, with averages around seven inches.
The capital of Nevada is Carson City, though many people think that it is Las Vegas, likely due to the fact that Las Vegas contains about 35 times as many residents as the capital. Reno is the other most major city in the state.

Reno and Virginia City
Reno, Nevada, which bills itself as "The Biggest Little City in the World" is also the friendliest little city in the world. Unlike Las Vegas where you need transport to cruise around, downtown Reno is compact enough to allow you to cover it all in a leisurely stroll. While Las Vegas dazzles you with its razzmatazz glitz, Reno beguiles you with its folksy charm. And, unlike Vegas where we are nonentities among millions of visitors from all over the world, Reno knows and loves us Canadians!
Smaller than Las Vegas as it may be, Reno doesn’t lack glitter. The Flamingo Hilton Hotel, Atlantis, Pepper Mill, Eldorado and Silver Legacy, among others, are all world-class hotel-casinos, which host big-name Broadway entertainers. The city also has a lively calendar of events: parades, rodeos and festivals. After a few days in the ever-morphing, sensory-overloaded Las Vegas, this was antithesis absolute. And getting here had been half the fun.
The adventure began on the Colorado River at the foot of the monolithic Hoover Dam. A Black Canyon rafting trip is the only way to view the dam's awe-inspiring 247 square mile (640sqkm) surface from such a humbling perspective, and as the 30-passenger motorized craft started its journey down river, the vivacious crowd had grown quiet, obviously pondering the enormity of the dam's structural engineering.
