Mention the name "Nevada" and what comes to mind for most people is the brightly lit strip that runs four miles through the city of Las Vegas. In reality though, there is much more to Nevada than just neon lights and casinos.

Also known as the Silver State, Nevada is the seventh largest state in the United States. Due to most of the state being situated in the Mojave Desert, the majority of the residents of Nevada live a few major centers.

The desert location means that the temperatures range from 13 °F to 104°F depending on the area. Most areas see less of a temperature range, however. Rainfall is very low in Nevada, with averages around seven inches.

The city also has a lively calendar of events: parades, rodeos and festivals. And last, but far from least Reno, in combination with nearby Lake Tahoe, boasts a total of 51 golf courses a different one for almost each week of the year!...read more »

The adventure began on the Colorado River at the foot of the monolithic Hoover Dam. A Black Canyon rafting trip is the only way to view the dam's awe-inspiring 247 square mile (640sqkm) surface from such a humbling perspective, and as the 30-passenger motorized craft started its journey down river, the vivacious crowd had grown quiet, obviously pondering the enormity of the dam's structural engineering. And what lay behind it; Lake Mead is the largest man-made lake in the United States, extending 110 miles and holding some 28.5 million acre feet of water...read more »
